From there we drove for miles and miles to get to the exciting Wall Drug! Kevin didnt't want to go and two hours later we were still trying to drag him out of there. In case you've never been to Wall Drug, it is a tourist trap that sells all kinds of trinkets that no one needs and has displays about Native Americans and how the west was won. Its interesting and makes a good bathroom break so stop on by!
The Badlands were located 9 miles outside of Wall Drug, it was quite the experience. Beautiful, ethereal, sacred. Like no other place. Definitely worth the visit.
Mount Rushmore!
AWESOME! We got to this monument about 7:30, the sun had set so it was getting harder to see but lucky us the "show" began at 8 with a talk about how the mountain came to be, along with a 20 minute film that was full of propoganda....such as the governments policies made some Indians have to leave their lands and the pictures of slaves were all smiling and happy! Really? The music though, it made us feel very patriotic. And that's the truth.
Lastly, we drove for 1.5 hours through the mountains in total darkness to our final destination of the day - Deadwood, SD. (Like the show, I am told) That's all for now.......folks!
I hope you took pictures of the kids on the mini John Deere's. What the heck is a corn palace??
ReplyDeleteFinally figured out how to do this. So sorry I couldn't join you all. It looks like you are having a blast! Keep the stories and pictures coming. . .
