Bozeman to Spokane, entering The Great PNW (Pacific North West)

Short Anecdote from the drive on highway 212 from Deadwood to Bozeman.
We have been driving for quite a while on Hwy 212 and it doesn't seem to be getting any shorter. the foothills are getting larger, the grass and are are hot and dry and the land around us is all but dead looking, this place needs some rain! but i digress, setting the sean is hard.... well, we davita's car is in the lead and cindy is having a tough time with the hills. we are going around a bend, at an incline, heading to the top of a foothill when a car starts trying to pass both Davita and davita. at that very moment, davita sees something strange in the middle of the road. was it a deer or an antelope like the song says? was it a black bear? No it was a COW!  a cow just standing in the middle of the lane, with a TRUCK speeding down the mountain (i mean foothill). i reduce my speed drastically, the car that is passing us doesn't seem to see it at first and then slows down too, and the truck is squealing and slamming on its breaks... luckily the cow darted back to the safety of the grassland and out of the road. but i could just see all sorts of situations in which cow guts got all over my car...
The End.

The drive from Bozeman to Spokane was one, if not the, most beautiful drives we had these last 4 days.  It was filled with plains and foothills, mountains and valleys, Passes and ranges, and lakes and cities. Adam and Kevin drove the first stretch of the day, after much discussion with the hotel staff about the type of mountain driving that we would be doing that day. it was said that the first stretch to Missula was the easier of the half's and having a new driver and a scared of mountain driver drive that part would be best.

We went through at least 3 passes in the morning part of our drive, and the Men did wonderflly. it was still an Interstate highway so the speeds were upwards of 75 and the lanes were big and the road went through the mountains mostly following the rivers.

within the first hour, we passed the continental dived, which was 6393 feet between Bozeman and Butte MT. that was really exciting. when we got the Butte, we made all kinds of Butte jokes and then continued on to Missula. it was an easy drive and the there was only about one or 2 more passes to go through. actually im not interlay sure about how many because for the first time all trip i was able to fall asleep while adam drove.

when we got to Missoula we stopped for lunch and went to some ATMs and filled up our gas tanks. i wanted to Moon the college because they turned me down but i didint. we switched drivers and went on. at this point we had been driving for about 2.5-3 hours and had another 2.5-3 to go. the difference between the first and second half of the drive was the road conditions, and the number of passes we went through. once we left Montana and entered Idaho the roads instantly changed. they were bumpy, uneven and badly paved. the safety reflectors were almost non and so it made us feel a little less safe. but the ride through the mountains was easy and at times exciting as we made our way to Spokane and all the way down and out of the mountains.

we got into Spokane a lot sooner then we had thought, mostly because we drove really well and didn't get caught in roadwork areas, but also because we entered our last timezone change. we are now officially in Pacific time which is 2 hours earlier the Central time. so we arrived before 5pm and checked into our hotel and hung out for a while before dinner.

Dinner was actually really nice. we went to an italian restaurant and had amazing food. it was a treat to be able to sit down for a few hours and relax and eat really good food. after dinner we came back to the hotel and Davita, davita and Adam were in bed and asleep shortly after 9pm.
it has definitely started to hit me for sure and i think Davita too, that we are almost there. it feels like we
are no longer on vacation but getting closer to our new life and that is scary to me. i am excited about this last leg of the journey from Spokane to Eugene (7hours and 40mins). with every day that passes and we get farther from Milwaukee, and closer to Eugene we are also getting closer to our new life and further away from what we know and the people we love.
Until next time
